The cowboy's chaps, like so much of his gear, represent a blending of tradition and practicality. The Mexican, Indian and Anglo-Americans all found advantages to wearing buckskin trousers or "leggings." The earliest chaps were simply trousers or leggings made of leather heavy enough to turn thorny bush. Called "leggins" by their Texas originators, these early chaps were usually topped by a straight belt, laced in front and buckled in the rear. They sometimes have patch pockets stitched on their fronts and sport fringe down the outside seam of the leg. Our chaparejos are constructed of super soft and durable Grade No. 1 elk hide. They feature a 2 1/2" waist belt, solid brass hardware, double reinforced stress points, a 2" cuff and 4" fringe. Many custom features are available such as patch pockets, double line border tooling, conchos and tackwork. Call or e-mail your needs.
