The Mesa Shirt

For many, the American West conjures up images of a wild, almost mythic time and place.  Legendary figures like mountainmen, frontiersmen, scouts, backwoods pioneers, cowboys, buffalo hunters, and explorers blazed a trail across the vast spaces of North America.  From the Cumberland Gap of Kentucky to the Bozeman Trail of the Powder River country to the cattle trails of Kansas and Texas, these hardy individuals shared a love of adventure, excitement, self reliance and absolute freedom.

Coffeyville Bib Shirt

Without exception the wearing of fringed buckskin pants and shirts for many was the uniform of the day.  Anyone who spent extended periods of time in the wild country soon realized the benefits of utilizing elk and buckskin for clothing items of every description.  Elk and buckskin are ideal materials for making clothing.  It is extremely comfortable to wear, very durable and for its natural beauty and sheer wearability no other material quite stacks up.

Miles Leatherworks is a custom clothier and can do a number of custom features such as longer fringe, shorter fringe, no fringe, scalp (hair) locks, beadwork and custom colors.  We can produce matching buckskin pants and/or old style shotgun chaps and are working on other styles.  We hope to be coming online with these shortly.  If you don't see what you want, please call or e-mail us with your request and we will work with you on a one-to-one basis.

Note:  We buy the finest grade #1 elk and buckskin available.  Keep in mind that we are working with wild animals and do not throw away very expensive leather for flaws in the hide that occur in nature such as scars, scrapes and speckling.  We do guarantee that there will be no holes in our products unless you request them.  Besides, these animals haven't had the best of luck as of late, they went and got themselves shot!
